From humble beginnings, owner and founder Boris Fong got his first gig as a line cook at a Scarborough bowling alley at the age of 16. Making his way through the ranks, he eventually earned his way in becoming an Executive Chef, working at several restaurants throughout the GTA.

But Boris' dream was always to call a restaurant his own one day – a dream that took over 20 years to come to fruition. After a 24-month period of construction + permit + delays (and then more construction + more permits + more delays), the HBH Group was established as we opened our first restaurant in February 2014. ​

​

Located in the heart of downtown on the historic Main Street, Hungry Brew Hops Public House & Eatery (HBH) is Newmarket's first gastropub (and York Region for that matter). Since then, we have gone on to open our second restaurant next door, lil' hops tavern, in February 2016. Not be outdone, of course, we opened our third restaurant in July 2018 with HopBop Noodle Shop across the street.

Our vision has been to bring original concepts to the heart of Main Street in providing unique and innovative dining experiences to our guests and achieving excellence in food, drink, service and atmosphere.

In 2020, we launched the HBH Good Eats Co., which includes all of our brands, plus catering and HOPS TO GO meals as we expand our portfolio of dining options.
